Paw protection for your dog

Dogs are constantly in direct contact with the ground with their paws: whether earth, grass, asphalt or snow and ice. Therefore, it is sometimes useful to put a paw protector on your faithful four-legged friend.

We at SABRO give you an overview of when paw protection for dogs makes sense and what types of protection are available. If you still have questions or are unsure which variant is the right one, just contact us and we will be happy to advise you.

The dog paw

Dogs are toe walkers, which means they walk on their toes. The paws are comparable to our hands. They have four toes, separated by flaps of skin, and claws. Slightly higher on the front feet sits the fifth toe. On the hind paws it is missing, but some dogs still have the so-called dewclaw or wolf claw in front and behind, which is on the inside of the paw.

On the underside of their paws they have robust pads (finger pads and palm pads). In addition, a little higher comes the carpal pads. In general, the pads protect against small wounds. Under normal circumstances, dogs very rarely injure their paws.

When does your dog need paw protection?

Dog paws have many receptors. Within a millisecond, they transmit to the dog's brain where he is walking or standing. They are responsible for preventing the animal from stepping on hot asphalt or into broken glass, for example. So your dog doesn't need any protection during a normal exposure.

If your dog has sustained an injury to his paw and is wearing a bandage, then a paw guard will protect the bandage and the paw itself. Your faithful friend can move around without the bandage accidentally coming undone, and at the same time it also cushions the pressure on the injured paw.

Other useful situations include summer and winter. No dog wants to walk on asphalt or stone in sweltering heat. Both heat up so much in the sun that running on them can burn the paw pads. Shoes keep the dog's paws protected from the heat.

And when it's freezing cold and snowing in the winter, a good paw protector will make the walk easier. Your dog's paws won't crack or freeze in the cold. Especially for dogs with long fur, annoying snowballs can form on the fur between the paws. Then walking becomes a nuisance.

Toffler paw protectors - versatile in use

With this practical paw protectors you prevent small injuries from broken glass on the paws. They also keep out road salt and heat and provide support for misalignments and paw dragging.

The paw protector fits anatomically to the dog's paw and is breathable. With the elastic Velcro fastening, your dog can wear it safely. Thanks to the robust and non-slip outsole, running and romping are no problem. The paw protection shoe is also suitable as protection against claw abrasion in case of HD and spondylosis or grass mites.

You get 2 pieces each in a reusable storage box. However, just like the harness, do not let your dog wear the paw protector permanently or indoors.

SKO bandage protection shoe for bandaged paws

This protective shoe also has the features of the Toffler paw protection, but is made extra large. So even a thick bandage from the vet fits under the shoe.

If your dog has injured a paw and has to wear a bandage, the bandage protection shoe protects the paw and the bandage, so that you can still walk with your darling. Of course, take it a little slower than usual so the paw can heal.

If it is very wet outside or you know that there is a wet meadow on your way, we recommend to simply pull a commercial freezer bag over the bandage before you put the shoe on your faithful friend.

Here you'll get 1 of each in a reusable storage box. If there is loose dirt on the protective shoe after the walk, just let it dry. Then you can brush off the dirt.

SABRO fleece toppers in the house

The SABRO fleece doffers are ideal for the house. The soft fleece material makes them absolutely air-permeable. Thanks to the anti-slip outsole, dogs can walk relaxed on smooth floors. The anatomically adapted shoes are also suitable for HD and spondylosis or as scratch and bite protection in case of injuries and allergies.

For seniors and dogs with handicap it is often enough to wear the fleece tofflers on the hind paws against slipping away on slippery floors.

In a storage box we supply 2 pieces each. So if you need protection for all four paws, you need in quantity 2.
