Paw protection for your dog
Whether it's a walk through the forest, a long hike in the mountains or a stroll through town - we humans wear suitable shoes to protect our feet from sharp stones, hot asphalt or grit. And there are also good reasons for dogs to wear high-quality dog shoes. After all, our dogs' paws are constantly in direct contact with the ground: whether earth, grass, asphalt or snow and ice.

That's why it sometimes makes sense to put a dog boot on your faithful four-legged friend to protect their paws. They protect sensitive paws from injury, provide support on rough terrain during longer walks and increase comfort - especially for older dogs or those with orthopaedic problems.
At SABRO, we give you an overview of when paw protection for dogs makes sense and what types of protection are available.
The dog's paw
Dogs are toe walkers, which means they walk on their toes. The paws are comparable to our hands. They have four toes, which are separated by flaps of skin, and claws. The fifth toe sits slightly higher on the front legs. It is missing on the hind feet, but some dogs still have the so-called dewclaw or wolf claw, which is on the inside of the paw.
On the underside of their paws they have robust pads (finger pads and palm pads). A little higher up is the carpal pad. In general, the pads protect against small wounds. Under normal circumstances, dogs very rarely injure their paws.
When does your dog need a dog boot?
Dog paws have many receptors. Within a millisecond, they tell the dog's brain where it is walking or standing. They are responsible for ensuring that the animal does not step on hot asphalt or broken glass, for example. Your dog therefore does not need any extra protection during normal exercise.
However, if your dog has injured his paw and is wearing a bandage, a special dog boot will protect the bandage and the paw itself. Your faithful friend can move around without accidentally opening the bandage, and at the same time it also cushions the pressure on the injured paw.
Other sensible situations can arise in certain seasons. No dog wants to run on asphalt or stone in the sweltering heat. Both heat up so much in the sun that walking on them can burn the pads of the paws. Shoes protect your dog's paws from the heat. Tip: You can easily test whether the ground is too hot for your dog in summer by walking a few steps barefoot. If it feels uncomfortably hot for you, it probably is for your dog too.
And even in icy cold, snow or road salt in winter, good paw protection makes walking your four-legged friend easier. They prevent your dog's paws from cracking or freezing in the cold. They can also prevent the formation of annoying snowballs on the fur between the paws, which is particularly important for dogs with long fur.
What is important when choosing the right dog shoe
Not every dog boot suits every dog - because every paw is different. To ensure that your four-legged friend feels comfortable and is well protected, you should pay attention to a few important points when buying:
- The right shoe size: The shoe must not pinch or slip. Measure your dog's paw while standing, when it is under weight. This will ensure that the shoe fits perfectly later on.
- Good fit: An anatomically shaped dog boot supports the natural movement of the paw and prevents pressure points or chafing - even on longer walks.
- Robust, non-slip sole: Particularly important on slippery floors or rough terrain - it ensures safety and protects against sharp objects or hot asphalt.
- Choice of materials: Breathable, water-repellent materials keep paws dry and at a pleasant temperature - in summer and winter alike.
- Easy to put on and take off: A sturdy, adjustable Velcro fastener ensures that the shoe stays securely in place but is still easy to put on.
- Note the intended use: Whether as protection against injuries, to prevent claw abrasion in the case of HD or spondylosis, or to relieve grass mites - a different type of shoe makes sense depending on the situation.
At SABRO, we attach great importance to quality, so that your four-legged friend is safe and comfortable at your side - in any weather, on any surface.

TOFFLER dog shoes paw protection - our classic, versatile product
With these practical neoprene dog shoes and a protective rubber sole, you can prevent minor everyday injuries, such as broken glass or similar. They also keep out road salt and heat and support your four-legged friend's paws in the event of misalignments and paw dragging.
The protective boot adapts anatomically to the dog's paw and is breathable. Your dog can wear it securely thanks to the elastic Velcro fastening. Thanks to the robust and non-slip outsole, the shoe also offers sufficient safety when running and romping around. The paw protection shoe is also ideal for protecting against claw abrasion in the case of HD or spondylosis as well as problems with grass mites.
You will receive 2 dog shoes each in a reusable storage box. They can be used universally for the front and back paws and are suitable for many outdoor adventures - Important: The dog shoes are suitable for your everyday walks, but should not be worn indoors permanently!
SKO bandage protection shoe - to protect injured and bandaged paws
This protective boot has all the features of the normal TOFFLER dog boot, but is extra large. This means that even a thick bandage from the vet fits under the shoe.
If your dog has injured a paw and needs to wear a bandage, the bandage protection shoe reliably protects the paw and the bandage so that you can still take your pet for a walk. A little slower than usual, of course, so that the healing of the paw is not impaired.
If it is very wet outside or you know that there is a wet meadow on your way, we recommend simply putting a standard freezer bag over the bandage before you put the shoe on your faithful friend.
You will receive 1 of each of these shoes in a reusable storage box. You can choose the protective bandage shoe individually for the front and back paws. If there is loose dirt on the protective shoe after a walk, simply leave it to dry. Then you can simply brush the dirt off afterwards.
TOFFLER Fleece dog slippers - for more safety at home
The fleece TOFFLER are ideal for indoor use. The soft fleece material makes the shoes absolutely breathable. The non-slip outsole provides a secure grip so that dogs can walk relaxed on smooth floors. The anatomically adapted dog shoes are also particularly suitable for HD and spondylosis or as scratch and bite protection for injuries and allergies.
For senior citizens and dogs with disabilities, it is often sufficient to wear the slippers on the hind paws to prevent slipping on slippery floors.
We supply 2 pieces in a storage box. So if you need protection for all four paws, you will need 2 in quantity.
